Need for Speed Underground 2 is old but gold and with this patch you can make things even better.
Released by Electronic Arts (EA) in November 2004 racing sim was the eighth edition of a franchise that dated back to 1994 and it became an instant hit with gamers due to its sleek graphics (for the day), wide choice of vehicles, and its customisation options.
Quite simply, the game raised the bar for racing sims as it featured new race methods and had an explore mode that allowed players to take in the sights of the city rather than being restricted to set routes and tracks like in rival games.
At the height of its success, it was owned by more than six million people worldwide and many still enjoy it today as it remains fast and fun yet has the retro vibe.
It was also famed for having an incredibly diverse soundtrack which featured tracks from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Felix Da Housecat, Rise Against, and Snoop Dog.
The premise of the game is quite simple. Your character loses his much loved Nissan Skyline GT R when he is hit by members of an underground street gang in an ambush. Eager for revenge, you must take place in a series of races before finding the gang's leader and giving him his comeuppance.
Patch 1.2 gives this classic a tune up so that you can keep enjoying it forever more. First up, it makes the game's multiplayer mode more responsive and optimises online gaming by ironing out crashes suffered regularity by those using older windows operating systems.
Improved visuals and reputation system
Subject to having a powerful enough graphic cards, this patch gives downloaders the tools need to bring this old game's graphics up to a somewhat modern standard.
It also repairs the sim's online reputation interface, removing the visible sign that you have been flagged (often unfairly) for poor driving behaviour and/or cheating. Errors were often acquired due to server problems and this patch now means you won't go on being punished for issues outside of your control.
Other fixes include no longer having to use an Internet connection to host LAN games, and increased performance for those using NVIDIA 6800 series graphics cards.
